Red Venus
17-06-2008

The Red Venus in this painting is inspired by the "Venus with the moon-horn", also known as the "Venus of Laussel" that was carved into rock in a cave in France about 25.000 years BC.
Originally she was coloured with red ochre. She is pregnant and about to give birth. She symbolises the power of life expressing itsself in the body of a woman.
Again I have used the colours white - red - black that symbolise the cycle of spring - summer - winter or young girl - ripe woman - wise old woman. But the red of fertility, of the full force of summer, is now in the foreground, because we are approaching midsummer... :)
